What’s a Personal Financial Specialist?

Published on by Andy Bertke

And…what are the benefits of meeting with a Personal Financial Specialist?

To continue to be recognized as a contributor to the financial planning sector, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) has developed its own credential including membership resources: the Personal Financial Specialist (PFS).

To achieve the PFS certification, candidates must first have attained the CPA in addition to specific work experience and continuing education in the area of personal and business financial planning.  In addition, a separate exam must be passed, annual continuing education hours attained, and the PFS must adhere to the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct.

The areas of expertise covered on the exam include:

  • Taxation
  • Estate and charitable planning
  • Risk management (insurance)
  • Investment planning
  • Retirement planning
  • Education planning

Different phases in life can often lead to decisions to make financial planning a priority.  Our firm can assist with the process of developing a successful plan, including planning, implementing, monitoring, and updating your plans. Regular interactions allow us to evaluate your financial situation to develop goals and an action plan to continually achieve those goals.

In addition to individual wealth planning, we have offerings that can benefit closely held businesses. There are a variety of specialized retirement plans that can be evaluated to determine if they are a fit for your retirement goals and needs.  In addition, succession planning and business valuation are areas that can be evaluated to ensure the right path is underway.
